LT100 Run Race – DNF

August 18, 2018. Leadville 100 Trail Run Race. DNF. If the altitude does not hit you, the aggressive race aid station cut-offs will. This is LT100 Run Race. If you DNF-ed in a race because you missed the cut-off, without any injuries or because of medical reasons, you just didn’t train enough for this race. Plain and simple. I am not being harsh (at least to myself), I am just stating the fact. This is what I was thinking when I was hiking down back to Twin Lakes aid station after being cut at Hope Pass, or more popularly know … Continue reading LT100 Run Race – DNF

Hope Pass Hike

Hope Pass.  The highest elevation in the LT100 Run Race at 12600 ft.  And you have to do it twice from both directions, on the outbound (at mile 40) and on the inbound (at mile 50).  This is where dreams die and hearts broken.  This is the crux of the LT100 race.  I hope we don’t suffer the same fate of those who failed. On Tues, Aug 14th, we hiked Hope Pass from the Winfield side, the inbound section of the LT100.  First, we drove all the way to Winfield to see where the 50th mile aid station would be.  … Continue reading Hope Pass Hike

Mt Elbert – My 1st 14er!

“Ok Google, What’s the highest peak in Colorado?” “Here’s what I found.  Mount Elbert @ 14,439 ft.” As part of our acclimatization period for LT 100, Philip and I needed to be exposed to high altitude, above 12k ft.  The plan was to hike 1 14er, Hope Pass, and another 12k+, on Mon, Tue, and Wed.  We checked some 14ers close to Leadville.  The shorter distance, the better, since we were after the altitude, not the mileage.  Mt Massive, the 2nd highest peak, was a good candidate.  However, looking at some pictures, this was not an easy one.  Mt Elbert … Continue reading Mt Elbert – My 1st 14er!

Sunset @ Rocky Mountain National Park

Aug 11, 2018. Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky Mountain National Park Sunset @ 12000 ft On my arrival at Denver International Airport, I drove to Rocky Mountain National Park. Went to Fall River Visitor Center (elevation @ 8250 ft) and took the scenic route, the Trail Ridge Road, to Alpine Visitor Center, the highest point in the park (elevation @ 11796 ft). The scenic drive was, indeed, scenic, and a little nerve racking. It’s single lane on each side of the road, with sheer drops and no guard rails. There are pullout sections to enjoy the views on both sides … Continue reading Sunset @ Rocky Mountain National Park

First Impression – Naked Running Band

Wow!  No bounce.  Really. My order from RunningWarehouse just arrived today.  And I took it for a quick 6 miler.  I stuffed things in it – 600ml flask, gels, more gels, phone, and went for a run.  I did some strides, jogged, sprinted, and settled on my tempo speed.  No bounce.  Really. And because of that, I made this post right after the quick test run.  I’ll update this post after my upcoming 100 miler experience with the Naked Running Band. I first saw the Naked Running Band when I was searching for a waist band for ultra running.  I … Continue reading First Impression – Naked Running Band
