Fall Hike – Escarpment Trail in North South Lake

October 12, 2019. An easy to moderate trail to enjoy the Fall colors. Include a trek down Kaaterskill Falls and up North Point for a good work out, with rewarding views. This is one hike where you have full control on how hard or relaxing you want it to be. It’s not an out-and-back. Not a loop either. There are several entry and exit points to get to the view points and back to your starting point. Take time out of the equation. Make it slow, and enjoy every little things on the trail. Fall Hike – Breakneck Ridge

October 6, 2019. Breakneck Ridge has always been one of my favorite places to go to for a good hike. It’s just a pain because it’s a 2-hr drive from my place. Forcing myself to wake up early and go for the drive is always the hardest part. But once on the road and the strong coffee takes effect, the mood changes from “Why am I doing this?” to “Yes, another good day for an adventure!” This is not an easy hike. But a very rewarding one. Scrambling is required in some sections going up the Breakneck Ridge Trail. I … Continue reading Fall Hike – Breakneck Ridge

Fall Hike – Bear Mountain

October 5, 2019. Fall is here. Trees letting go of their leaves. But rather than simply letting their leaves fall to the ground, they decided to give a magic show. Perhaps to encourage folks to ignore the cold mornings and short daytime to still find time to be outside. “Bet I can make you go outside if I make my leaves turn from green to yellow to red before they hit the ground. It’s only available for a short period so come out and see this magic show, I call – The Changing Colors of Fall“ “And it’s free!” You … Continue reading Fall Hike – Bear Mountain

Valley of Fire State Park

An underrated park An hour away from Vegas Skip the strip, take the drive Scenic views without the lights Be a kid, you’ll surely see Zebra stripes or ice cream swirls Even fried egg on a platter? A short side trip before flying back home, but the moment I entered the park, I’ve wished I could have stayed longer. This was on the last day of this trip, after the backpacking trip in Havasupai, and camping at Red Rock Canyon. My flight was in the afternoon and I was thinking of doing something before heading to the airport. Should I … Continue reading Valley of Fire State Park

Sourland Hike with Mr. Grumps

Jan 19, 2019 – Taking advantage of the calm weather before the big storm hits the area in the evening. I took Mr. Grumps to Sourland Mountain Preserve for a trail run today. I thought it would be muddy, but the trail was hard packed with traces of snow and ice. Mr. Grumps definitely had fun exploring the trails. And as usual, he wanted to have some pictures taken. He met my old trail buddies and had pictures with them. He even did some ‘free soloing’ to show that he, too, has the courage to do what seems to be … Continue reading Sourland Hike with Mr. Grumps
