Skyline Caverns. Another attraction in Front Royal, Virginia – near the Shenandoah National Park @ Front Royal Park Entrance. This does not boast any majestic formations like the ones found in Luray Caverns, but it has the bragging right of being 1 of only 3 caverns in the US where abundance of anthrodites are found. Luray Caverns. A popular tourist attraction in Virginia – a short drive from Shenandoah National Park @ Thornton Gap Park Entrance. It is the largest caverns among the set of caverns in Virginia, and a highly recommended visit when in the Shenandoah area. Continue reading Luray Caverns
This is a series of hikes on the 2nd day of my stay @ Shenandoah National Park. These are all rated ‘moderate’ hikes from the park’s formula for determining hiking difficulty. Please bear in mind that this is relative to one’s fitness level. Also, distances listed of these hikes may not be that accurate. My GPS watch recorded longer distances for each hike. Remember to stop by the park’s Visitor Center and get up-to-date information about the trail conditions. Talk to a ranger before you go. Dark Hollow Falls. Skyline Drive Mile 50.7. Listed Distance RT – 1.4 miles. Rose … Continue reading More Waterfalls Hikes @ SNP
Cedar Run – Whiteoak Canyon Circuit Hike. The official map for this circuit gives this hike a distance of 7.3 miles, with a rating of ‘very strenuous’. The distance may not be accurate. It was more than 9 miles from what I’ve read in Hiking Project and what came out of my GPS at the end of the hike. The rating was accurate, though. In a nutshell, this circuit hike starts at the Hawksbill Gap parking lot @ Skyline Drive mile 45.6, descending the Cedar Run trail until it meets the Whiteoak Canyon trail. It’s all hike up from there … Continue reading Cedar Run – Whiteoak Canyon Falls
“Never let this day go to waste” A phrase I kept repeating on the way here. It’s rain all day in almost the whole east coast. Hurricane Michael is all over the southeast area, causing havoc in parts of Florida. I can’t stay home. Today is no ordinary day. I need to go out. Going up north, to Niagara Falls – not really cost effective given the late planning. Going down south, to Shenandoah National Park – feasible with a side trip to see the Great Falls @ Virginia. Rain on the way, heavy at times, but I got some … Continue reading Great Falls Park, Virginia
October 04, 2018. Liberty State Park. The perfect sunrise does not always have to come from the summits of the highest mountains or the blue waters of the eastern shores. It’s there, within reach, but oftentimes ignored. Check your backyard, you may have the perfect sunrise without even knowing it. Continue reading Sunrise @ LSP
